One of the few places in the world whale sharks are seen year-round rather than in a season, along the southern rim of the atoll. It is the atoll people book when the wildlife is the reason for the trip.

Year-round does not mean guaranteed, and any operator saying otherwise is selling something. What it means is that the resident population along the rim is not seasonal, so a boat out in February has broadly the odds of a boat out in August — which is not true of the manta gathering in Baa. The islands themselves sit far enough from Malé to need a seaplane or the domestic flight to Maamigili, so an evening arrival into the country costs a night in the capital. Book a morning or early-afternoon landing and the whole problem disappears; we check your flight times against the resort before quoting rather than after.

No, and we will not tell you otherwise. The population along the southern rim is resident rather than seasonal, so the odds are good in any month and better on a longer stay with more than one boat trip in it. Nobody can promise an animal.

It depends on the island — some are reached by seaplane, others by the domestic flight to Maamigili and a short boat. Both are daylight-only in practice, which is what decides which flight you should book out of India.

It is, provided the trip is long enough to absorb the transfer. On three nights the travel is a large fraction of the holiday; on five or more it stops mattering and the wildlife is worth being out there for.
