A seaplane is not a longer version of a speedboat — it is a different day. These islands are reached by one, and the rule that comes with it decides which flight you should book out of India.

Seaplanes fly in daylight only. A flight landing at Malé in the evening cannot connect to one, so the night is spent in a hotel in the capital and the island is reached the following morning — a night paid for and a day of the holiday gone, on a trip that is usually three or four nights long. Booking a morning or early-afternoon arrival avoids it entirely, which is why we ask for your flight times before quoting one of these islands rather than after. The compensation is the flight itself: twenty minutes at low altitude over the atolls is the view people describe afterwards, and no speedboat transfer offers anything like it.
