Hanifaru is seasonal and access is managed: a permit, a ranger, a limited number of boats in the water and snorkelling only, no scuba. A December booking will not see it, and a resort that implies otherwise is selling the reserve rather than the season. Outside the gathering the atoll is still one of the better reef systems in the country and the islands are among the most expensive in it, so what you are choosing between is a quieter, dearer holiday here or a shorter transfer nearer Malé. The islands are reached by seaplane in daylight, which puts the same constraint on your inbound flight as the rest of the northern atolls.
