New Year's Eve in Singapore 2026: Marina Bay Fireworks Guide

Where to watch the Marina Bay fireworks on 31 December 2026, when to arrive, how late the trains run, and how to plan the New Year week from India.

On the night of 31 December the sky over Marina Bay fills with fireworks, framed by Marina Bay Sands, the Esplanade and the skyline — the image most people have of New Year's Eve in Singapore, and one you can watch for free from the waterfront. The catch is that a very large share of the city has the same plan. This guide covers where to watch, when to get there, how late the trains run, and how to plan the New Year week from India.

The Marina Bay countdown

The official programme for 31 December 2026 — it will be called the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2027 — had not been announced at the time of writing; last year's was announced in late November. In the 2025 edition the fireworks were designed to be seen all around the bay: they started at 11pm and ran in four segments, about thirty minutes of fireworks in all, building to midnight. There is no ticket for the fireworks themselves — the waterfront viewing areas are free.

The fireworks are launched over the water of Marina Bay, so every spot on the promenade that rings the bay has a view; what changes from spot to spot is the angle and the crowd. The countdown itself is at midnight; what happens before it — performances, light shows, earlier fireworks — depends on the year's programme, so check the official listing a few days before.

Where to watch the fireworks

In 2025 the police ran controlled entry at the main waterfront viewing areas, each closed once it was full:

  • Merlion Park and One Fullerton — the classic view across the bay to Marina Bay Sands, and among the first to fill.
  • Esplanade Park and the Esplanade Waterfront Promenade — the same view from the north side of the bay.
  • The Promontory — the open lawn at the bay's southern edge, facing the city skyline.
  • The Marina Bay Sands Waterfront Promenade — close to the action, looking back at the skyline.
  • A hotel room or rooftop with a bay view — the comfortable option, booked months ahead and priced accordingly.

A live crowd map, Crowd@MarinaBay, went up at 7pm on the night showing which areas were full. Bags may be checked at entry, and drones and kites are banned near the bay.

When to arrive

For a place on the waterfront with a clear view, aim to be in position by about 9pm, earlier at the Merlion and Esplanade side. Bring water and something to sit on, eat before you go, and agree a meeting point with your group in case you are separated — mobile networks are slow in a crowd that size. With young children or elderly parents, a spot at the edge of a viewing area, or an earlier fireworks show elsewhere (below), is far easier than the centre.

Getting home after midnight

Trains and buses run late on New Year's Eve. On 31 December 2025 the last trains left City Hall for Jurong East and Pasir Ris at 2.15am, and 56 bus services ran until between about 2.40am and 3.35am. The Changi Airport branch of the East-West line was not extended, so do not plan to reach the airport by train after midnight. The 2026 timings are published by the operators in the last days of December.

The stations nearest the bay are packed straight after the fireworks, and in 2025 trains could skip Bayfront and Stadium stations for crowd control; walking ten or fifteen minutes to a station further out usually gets you home sooner than queuing at the closest one. Taxis and ride-hailing are scarce and surge-priced in the hour after midnight. Roads around Marina Bay are closed on the night — in 2025 Bayfront Avenue and Esplanade Drive were shut from 6pm until 2am — so a private car cannot collect you at the waterfront.

Other ways to spend the night

Marina Bay is not the only countdown. In 2025 Sentosa held a free beach party at Siloso Beach from 7pm to 1am, with fireworks at midnight, and the Sports Hub at Kallang had a 35-minute fireworks display at about 9pm — an early show that suits families with small children who will not last until midnight. Dinner cruises on the bay and rooftop bars with a view sell out early and are priced for the night; if you want one, book in November.

New Year's Day 2027

New Year's Day, Friday 1 January 2027, is a public holiday, so the first weekend of the year is a long one for people living in Singapore too, and the attractions are busy. Many shops and restaurants open later than usual on the morning of the 1st. If your flight home is on 1 or 2 January, book it early: those are among the most heavily booked days of the year on routes back to India.

Planning New Year's Eve from India

  • Book flights and hotels first. The last week of December is the most expensive of the year on India–Singapore routes, and hotels near Marina Bay are the first to sell out.
  • Apply for the visa early. Indian passport holders need a Singapore e-visa through an authorised agent; apply well before a holiday departure.
  • Keep 31 December light. Plan an easy day — a morning attraction, a rest in the afternoon — because the evening is long and on your feet.
  • Pick your viewing spot by your group. Couples can head for the Esplanade or Merlion Park; families with small children or grandparents are better off with an earlier show or the edge of a viewing area.

A New Year week in Singapore, packaged

Our Singapore Tour Packages include hotels, airport transfers and the attraction tickets in each itinerary, and the packages priced with return flights from an Indian city run on set departure dates — each package page lists them.
